As congratulations pour in from around the world following the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son the people of Scotland are being encouraged to mark the occasion by naming their favourite pub.
The Duchess of Sussex, who is a distant relative of Scottish King Robert the Bruce, gave birth at 0526 on Monday to a baby who will be seventh in line to the throne.
“The birth of a Royal Baby is something to be celebrated across the four corners of the UK.” said Damian Cummins, Director of the SME National Business Awards 2019. “With the Duchess of Sussex being related to one of Scotland’s most famous Kings we are calling on those wetting the baby’s head this week to nominate their favourite pub to ensure it will also be recognised on a national level.”
The widely recognised SME National Business Awards have announced the brand new category of ‘Pub of the Year’ for 2019 which will include a Public Vote ensuring loyal customers everywhere can have a say in their favourite local pub being recognised on the national stage by visiting http://bit.ly/SMENominate
It is possible to trace a direct Royal line through 25 generations to Robert I of Scotland and it is the lineage of Meghan’s gran that can be traced directly to the Scottish royals.
“Scotland has just under 5000 pubs across the nation and we want them to be celebrated with pubs across the rest of the UK at these highly regarded awards.” Damian Cummins continued. “This week, when many more people than ever will be celebrating would be a great time to take just a few moments to nominate a Scottish pub that is the best and therefore should be recognised in the right way.”
Pub of the Year will form part of the 4 public vote categories at the SME National Business Awards 2019 which also includes Best Customer Service, Coffee Shop of the Year and Restaurant of the Year.
Each nomination in the public vote categories will be required to fill out an application form to complete their entry with independent businesses, franchises, and branches of larger businesses permitted to enter the public vote categories.
The competition is open to all businesses nationally who commenced business before January 2019.
Entry into the Public Vote categories is FREE, although an entry form must be completed.
Scores in the Public Vote categories will be determined by both the entry form (75%) and number of public votes (25%).
A small Pub will have an equal opportunity of winning, as the number of covers will be taken into account.
